Your Hero now has his own bag which he can take with him on journeys. This is not to be confused with the equipable item called the Sack/Bag/Pouch - they are two separate things.
The Hero's bag allows him to carry consumable items, and can be located by the square next to his feet on the bottom right. Items which aren't in his bag, are held in storage, which is the 12 square grid on the right.
The Hero's bag is a place where you are able to drag items for him to use or carry. Items such as ointments, tablets of law and books of wisdom when moved into the bag are used instantly when equipped so cannot be carried. Whereas bandages, small bandages and cages need to be equipped and carried with the Hero to be used during or after combat.

Reduce battle losses : Small Bandages

1 small bandage heals 1 troop of army accompanying Hero
Only 25% of the army can be healed using small bandages
Storage : Item is stackable
Small bandages must be kept in the bag of the Hero to take effect

Reduce battle losses : Bandages

1 bandage heals 1 troop of army accompanying Hero
Only 33% of the army can be healed using bandages
Storage : Item is stackable
Bandages must be kept in the bag of the Hero to take effect

Heals Hero Health : Ointment

1 ointment gives 1% health

All 99% of hero health can be restored using ointment as long as hero is alive
Storage : Item is stackable
Ointment effect is instant
when applied - does not need to be in Hero's bag

Increase Hero experience : Scrolls

Gives Hero 10 experience points towards new level
Storage : Item is stackable
Scrolls effect is instant when equipped - does not need to be in Hero's bag

Resurrects Hero : Bucket

Revives Hero from death without any resource cost
Storage : Not stackable
Bucket effect is instant
when equipped - does not need to be in Hero's bag

Redistribute Hero skills : Book of Wisdom

Resets Hero skills so they can be redistributed
Storage : Not stackable
Book of Wisdom effect is instant 
when equipped - does not need to be in Hero's bag

Capture animals : Cage

1 animal can be caught from oasis per 1 cage and will defend your village
Storage : Item is stackable
Cages must be kept in the bag of the Hero to capture the animals; 
no fight will take place at the oasis

Raises village loyalty : Tablet of Law

Raises loyalty in village by 1% per 1 tablet of law to a maximum of 125%
Storage : Item is stackable
Tablet's effect is instant
when equipped - does not need to be in Hero's bag

Increase Culture Points : Artwork

Gives culture equal to daily production but not more than 
5000 (1x) 2500 (3x) culture
Storage : Item is stackable
Artwork effect is instant
when equipped - does not need to be in Hero's bag
