Adventures can only be done by your hero.

As part of T4's new game play, Heroes can be equipped with items that make your Hero stronger and/or give a bonus to the troops he is travelling with, as well as items that are able to increase build times in your village, and travel times between alliance members. They cannot be stolen by other players and they cannot be lost if the Hero dies in combat. The only draw back is that your Hero can only wear one of each type at any one time - for example he can't wear two helmets, for a start he would look ridiculous! There are also consumable items that can improve healing, culture, loyalty and help you capture wild animals! All of these could be yours - read on!
To get items for your Hero, you are going to need to send him on many adventures (found by clicking the X-marks the spot map tab on the side of your Hero's profile). Not all of the adventures you send him on will yield the best results - sometimes he loses health and sometimes he returns with nothing (although he will always get experience from going even if he is empty handed). But more often than not your Hero will bring home gifts of silver, resources, ointments, new swords, or even stray troops or a horse which he was able to find in the mountain / forest / lake. The more adventures you send him on, the more likely you are to pick something up so keep trying.

If you've had bad luck with adventures, you can still obtain Hero items by shopping for them in the Auction House (found by clicking the little hammer tab on the side of your Hero's profile). Here you can find all sorts of items being sold by other players' on your server. You may not find the ones you're looking for, but be patient - others are just as keen to find and keep hold of Hero items and may not be willing to trade just yet. Later on in the game when more and more people find their items building up and duplicating, they will be more happy to sell them.

Once you've got your item - congratulations! It's time to apply it. Note that an item will have no effect if it remains in your item list, you need to equip it or consume it, so make your way over to your Hero screen by clicking on his face in the circle on the top right. You'll be confronted with a set of boxes, containing pictures of the items you've managed to obtain. To 'use' one, click the image.

If it is an equipable item (e.g. a helmet) then the helmet will be applied immediately and appear on your hero. But consumable items are more tricky and can be moved or applied depending on its effect. They can also be carried in your Hero's sack.
So you want to get some hero items? We'll give you a brief walk-through of the adventure system to help you get started. If you followed your Taskmaster at the beginning, he will already have taught you how to send your hero away and find things. Your account size has no bearing on what you receive, you could be a very small player and discover something very rare and valuable, so don't be disheartened if you don't find much when you begin because the first 10 quests always yield the same items - a horse, extra resources, silver, stray troops, cages, a book of wisdom and some ointments. But you want to discover more .... like this! :D
